My Fiero electronic gadgets page
Most of my Fiero electronics projects are various homemade scantools, which may be interesting to you.
When I was fed up with my empty wiper fluid tank, I installed this Washer fluid telltale.
Something else a lot of people have shown interest in is an inexpensive Heads-Up Display (HUD) for the Fiero. Check it out! But be warned, although it is "cool", it is not properly tested. It works on my 87GT, but I can not guarantee if it will work on your car.
One of my latest and IMHO most useful projects is this One-Touch Power Window Controller for the Fiero. It's so convenient, I've put it on all of our Fieros, and I wouldn't want to miss it.
The latest invention is my Do-It-Yourself scantool FlexScan. If you always wanted to build a scantool yourself, you'll love this one!
Other gadgets I built include this defogger switch circuit. It uses a defogger switch to drive a relay that can be used to enable a car alarm, a kill switch or whatever you want to control with it. One push to "on" turns the relay on, switch the defogger "off", and the relay goes off. The magic part is that the relay does not draw current in either position, so it can be used even with the engine off, since the standby current is close to zero.
If you suspect your gauges are inaccurate, have a look at this gauge tester, an inexpensive device that can be built by a novice and is very useful. It can also be used to troubleshoot faulty sensors.
If your speedo or tach don't work, the above tester will be of no use. But this speedo/tach tester generates the proper signals to test both. This circuit is a little more difficult than the two circuits above.
Here's one I didn't invent myself: I recently drew the schematics of the subwoofer amplifier, in case you are interested. It may come in handy if your amp ever starts making funny sounds...
The tach filter has been discontinued by GM, so here is the schematic to build a replacement (Thanks to Aaron Koch for the information).
Also, you may find the following light bulb information useful:
